Did you know that many students and their families at Susanna Moodie Elementary School speak a language other than English at home? In December 2024, we conducted a school-wide survey and discovered that our students collectively speak more than 13 different languages! This incredible diversity is something to celebrate and embrace as a school community.
To recognize and honour the rich linguistic backgrounds of our students, we have introduced multilingual signage throughout the school. Important areas such as the gym, library, office, and washrooms are now labeled in all 13 languages represented in our school. These signs serve as a visual reminder of the many cultures and languages that make up our community, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all.
Language is a powerful connector, and this initiative is just one of the ways we are working to create a sense of belonging for every student. By seeing their home language represented at school, students can feel more valued and supported in their learning journey. We encourage families to take a walk through the school and explore these signs with their children!
Thank you to our students, families, and staff for embracing this initiative. Together, we continue to build a school culture that respects and celebrates the diversity that makes Susanna Moodie such a special place to learn and grow.
