Staggered Entry for Incoming Kindergarten Students

Staggered Entry for Incoming Kindergarten Students

To establish a strong foundation for our Year 1 students as they transition to school, we will be implementing a staggered entry plan.

The rationale for this approach includes:
This will allow for a gradual introduction to the school environment, helping children adjust more easily to their new routine, classroom, and teachers.
Initially limiting the number of students present makes the environment less intimidating and more manageable for each child.

Staggering the entry of Year 1 students over two days (half on Day 2 and half on Day 3) enables the classroom team to provide more individualized attention, ensuring each child feels welcomed and supported.

This method facilitates effective assessment of each child’s needs, allowing tailored support as required.
Establishing kindergarten routines is crucial for creating a sense of security and predictability for young children. A staggered entry plan assists in gradually introducing and practicing these routines, such as lining up, taking turns, and following classroom procedures.
